The Latest : Tony Mullett Will Assist Junior Edwards As A Laurentian Coach in 2009

St.Lawrence Laurentian inside sources are revealing that Junior Edwards will be coaching the St. Lawrence Laurentians in 2009.

"Hall of Famer"

Edwards is one of the best soccer players to ever wear the Laurentian colors. He is a member of the Newfoundland and Labrador Soccer Hall of Fame, the Burin Peninsula Soccer Hall of Fame, and the St. Lawrence Soccer Hall of Fame.In 2008 he was inducted into Sport NL "Sports Hall of Fame. He is only the fourth Laurentian to bestowed this honor. Former, St. Lawrence Laurentian greats, Gus Etchegary, Wils Molloy and Norm Kelly are the other three.

Experienced coach
Edwards has previously coached the St. Lawrence Senior Laurentians on three different occasions. He first coached St. Lawrence in 1991. He again coached the Laurentians from 1994 - 1997. He followed this up by coaching the Laurentians from 2000 - 2004. During his years of coaching he has coached the Laurentians to five provincial Challenge Cup Championships; 1995, 1996, 1997, 2000 and 2001. Undoubtedly, his greatest achievement occurred, at the National level in 2002, when he coached St. Lawrence to a National Silver Medal in St. John's.


Truth or Fiction
?

Reports are further mounting that the St.Lawrence Laurentians will be having former Holy Cross all -star player Tony Mullett joining Junior Edwards as his assistant coach in 2009. Inside sources reveal that Mullett will be taking care of the players that are living in the St. John's area. Edwards, who is presently employed at Voisey's Bay working a shift schedule that involves a 2 week on 2 week off rotataion will be very hard pressed to perform the full time duties as head coach of the Laurentians by himself.
13 players
Word has it that the Laurentians are hard pressed themselves for players in 2009 and so far they have 13 players that are committed. Strangely enough the vast majority of these players are now residing in St. John's.

Very Interesting Indeed !!
After I posted this latest post concerning the St.Lawrence Laurentian coaching situation, for the 2009 season, I received a very interesting telephone call. The caller asked me, " How could my about the coaching situation be true because at this point, after the resignation of Derek Strang, the caller further stated, the St.Lawrence Soccer Association haven't even advertised the coaching position for the 2009 season?

I told him his comments are: Very Interesting Indeed !!
