from John Douglas

 Hello Everyone!

My family and I have begun the initial planning for the 5th Annual tournament, and are now looking for your guys interest in putting together teams, or entering the tournament individually.
The tournament will take place Friday, July 31st. The tournament will start at 2 PM sharp.

As in previous years, we will play a "Best Ball" format again, with teams of 5 golfers. Again, you can enter a team, or you can enter as an individual and we will place you on a team with people who you may know.

The cost of the tournament is $40.00, this includes the 9 hole tournament, along with a steak dinner.

The tournament has grown into quite a success; we have been blessed great weather, loads of laughs and great representation of my father's friends, and friends who are dear to our family!
If you know of someone who may also be interested in attending the tournament, or who may be interested in donating a prize, please feel free to forward them this message.
We look forward to hearing you soon, and seeing you at the tournament!

Thanks!

Holy Cross and Feildians win

Holy Cross: 1 vs St. Lawrence :0

Tomas Pieroway, Kyle Williams, Scott Woodfine

Holy Cross Move Into 1st Place
When two teams go head to head with undefeated records you know that both coaches want to get to this match up just to get a good read on his club. That's exactly what we had on Saturday at KGV. Both Holy Cross and St. Lawrence had played 7 games and both were undefeated. St. Lawrence had 6 wins and 1 tie for 19 points . Holy Cross had played 7 games with 5 wins and 2 ties which was good for 17 points.
Holy Cross are very fit
Holy Cross have won five out of the past six years and again on Saturday they demonstrated that they are going to be very hard to beat in 2015. The team has enormous amount of talent and above all they have a superior level of fitness.  The team as a whole are a skillful team and move the ball lateral very well. While St. Lawrence are relatively strong down the middle and can boost the best defensive unit, Clinton Edwards, Marc Pittman, in the province. The Laurentians also have a superior goalie in, John Douglas. On Saturday, despite only losing by a 1-0 margin to Holy Cross, Cross totally controlled the possession of the ball and consequently, they dominated the  game. The difference in the match was John Douglas, the man virtually stood on his head and was very poised in doing so. Goal scoring leader, Kyle Williams of Holy Cross notched his fifth of the season at the 53 minute mark and Holy Cross's, Scott Woodfine had another called back for off-sides on what one would say, it was a very close play. Throughout the contest Holy Cross had eight quality chances while the Holy Cross keeper, Thomas Pieroway, had a minimal amount of work to do in net as he recorded the shutout.

 Feildians 3 vs Corner Brook : 1

Feildians move four points up on Corner Brook

While Holy Cross and the Laurentians were battling it out on Saturday . so were the Feildians and Corner Brook fighting. However, these two clubs may very well have been fighting for their play-off lives. Prior to this match Feildians had seven points and Corner Brook had six points. While, the idle Mount Pearl team has a fairly good strangle hold on 3rd place with 14 points.
The first half of the contest was fairly even and the game was scoreless at the end of 45 minutes. When the second half opened Corner Brook caught an early break and opening the scoring on a shot which deflected of a Feildian player giving the mill-town boys a 1-0 lead. However, for the rest of the half it was all Feildians. Feildians were winning every battle and it resulted in three unanswered goals. Scoring for the Feildians were; Kevin Connolly, Sean Fardy and Aaron Buckingham. Both of these two clubs meet again next weekend in Corner Brook.  Should be interesting !

Mount Pearl 4 vs CBS 0

Adam Drover & Brandan Noseworthy

Mount Pearl have a stranglehold on  3rd place

Adam Drover said farewell to his teammates Wednesday evening in fine fashion. He led his team scoring two goals just hours before he was to board a plane which would take him to Norway for work. The NLSA certainly wishe Adam and his girlfriend, all the best with their future endeavors while living in Norway. Drover opened the scoring for Mount Pearl at the 25 minute mark and scored the last goal of the match at the 64 minute mark. Craig Seymore and Matthew Hamyln were the other Mount Pearl marksman. Brandon Noseworthy picked up his second shut-out on the season. While CBS continue to look for their first victory this season. They are currently 0-9 on the season.

Kirby United Keeps On Winning

Kirby United vs Feildians in Jubilee Cup Competition - June 18/2015

Kirby United: 3  vs  Feildians : 0
It was just another day at the office for the Kirby United Jubilee Trophy Team as they easily picked up their 4th win of the season defeating the Feildians by a 3-0 score. The Kirby United team have dominated women's soccer for the past 6 years and have had some very respectable showings at the National Jubilee Championships. On Wednesday night at KGV , former league MVP and National Golden Boot Award Winner, Malorie Harris opened the scoring for Kirby United. Malorie has been practically unstoppable thus far again this season as she is out in front in the goalscoring department with 6 goals in just 4 games. Kirby's second goal of the match came from veteran defender, Nicole Moores. Nicole is more known for her defensive ability rather than her goal scoring ability headed the ball in the net from a corner crossover. Kirby's final goal of the evening  came late in the game when Nicole Torraville scored her 3rd goal of the season on a beautiful shot from 24 yards out. Newcomer, Melvina Stacey (photo) also don the gold & blue uniform for the first time as she saw action in the match for the Kirby United squad. Stacey who originally hails from Marstown brings a wealth of experience to the team and has been an all-star for years playing with different teams throughout Canada. In 2012 and 2013 she was top goalscorer in Saskatchewan and last year she played in a very highly regarded Alberta Women's Soccer League. She informed me she was very excited to return home and be given the opportunity to play in the NLSA Premier Women's Soccer League.  Honestly, I really don't who will be more excited, her or her dad  Melv Stacey, a former coach with Marstown United and a BPSA Hall of Famer himself.

FEILDIANS DEFEAT CBS - JUNE 14 - 2015

Feildians : 3 vs CBS : 1

Steven Johnson, Kevin Connolly, Zack Hynes

Feildians pick-up 3
Feildians traveled to CBS team on Sunday with full intentions of gaining three points and that's exactly what they did. Feildians came out of the gate and started pressing right from the opening whistle. Feildians put so much pressure on CBS that it resulted in an own goal scored at the 7 minute mark thus giving the Feildians a 1-0 lead and a lead which would last for the entire first half.

CBS are quickly learning this year that it's not easy to score goals or gain points against the Challenge Cup established teams. While Feildians may definitely be a contender they too are struggling putting the ball in the net this season.

In the second half the Feildians did manage to score two goals of their own. At the 42 minute mark veteran Zack Hynes found the back of the net and at the 51 minute mark Kevin Connolly put the Feildians ahead by a 3-0 score. At the 87 minute mark CBS finally got their first goal of the season. Sure determination allowed CBS's Brady Reid to beat the Feildians fullbacks and put the ball pass a bewildered Michael Delong who was the Feildians goalkeeper.

Brady Reid scored the 1st goal of the 2015
Molson Challenge Cup for the CBS team.

Mitch King is back in the Challenge Cup fold
this season donning the CBS stripes. He appears
to be very fit and playing with
a great level of confidence.

Holy Cross blanks CBS

Jeremy Babstock - Matt Breen - Thomas Pieroway

Holy Cross: 2 vs CBS: 0

At KGV on Wednesday night Holy Cross continued their winning ways despite CBS playing their best game of the early season. Matt Breen opened the scoring, scoring a beautiful goal at the 18 minute mark after being sent in the clear by Owen Macleese. CBS had opened the game missing on a couple of glorious opportunities after the Holy Cross fullbacks had being caught napping. CBS played Holy Cross fairly even in the first half but their failure to score continued to haunt the Strikers  FC team.
The second half was pretty well all Holy Cross. Cross dominated control of the game but their failure to be able to penetrate CBS's defense left the boys in Red & Gold frustrated time after time. With time dwindling away,at the 89 minute mark, veteran Jeremy Babstock scored on a superb header after young Holy Cross player, Jacob Grant, sent across a fine ball from deep on the right side of the field. For the record it was again Thomas Pieroway picking up the Holy Cross shut-out.

Mount Pearl : A true contender in 2015

L-R : Ryan Caines, Justin Pickford, Kevin Oram,
Mark Reddy, Andrew Murphy

Justin Pickford : 4 goals

Nick Power

Mount Pearl Are True Contenders in 2015

Mount Pearl defeated CBS 2-0 on Sunday in NLSA Molson Challenge action. They got a couple of goals from Justin Pickford and shut-out goal-tending from Nick Power. The Mount Pearl victory currently puts Mount Pearl into 3rd place.
I realize it may be very early in the season but Mount Pearl certainly has a squad that can compete with the best teams that are presently competing for Challenge Cup. When I see a team comprised  of veterans such as: Ryan Caines, Justin Pickford, Kevin Oram, Mark Reddy, Andrew Murphy and Taedy O'Rourke, they are really a fairly talented group. Andrew Murphy has been an all-star his hold career and right now he is as good as any defender in the league. While, I feel Justin Pickford has a lot of talent and is as good as any striker in the league and he truly knows where the net is. Kevin Oram, seems to be back in fine form this season while  playing mid-field. With these players you add Mark Reddy, Ryan Caines and Taedy O'Rourke, three hard nose guys that been around the game a long time and can help any team. Plus, lets not forget their Captain, Matthew Hamyln and their number one keeper, Brandon Noseworthy, Brandon seems to have come in to his own this season after toying in net with the Holy Cross Crusaders for a few years.

The club may need to learn when and where to put the right players on the field, or even,  how to play hard consistently but the ingredients are there for Mount Pearl to contend in 2015.

CBS Strikers Must Suffer Through some More Growing Pains

2015 CBS Strikers FC Players

CBS Strikers FC Coaches
L-R : Ass Coach - Damien Dyke & Head Coach - Gary Forsyt

Oh The Pain !
CBS Strikers FC Challenge Cup soccer team are back into action after a one year absence
from action in 2014. Head Coach, Gary Forsyt who was also the CBS Head Coach when the team re-entered Challenge Cup in 2011 knows what it is like to suffer from pain and the pain I'm talking about is the growing pains a team must suffer when you enter a new team in Challenge Cup. Corner Brook also got a good taste of this sort of suffering when they were trounced by Holy Cross 9-0 last weekend at KGV.

However, my hat still goes off to Forsyt for his attitude and for his efforts. This man told me that he feels, in order for his region to have complete soccer program, the region must have a team competing at the top level and he is right. Forsyt is also involved with coaching in the all-star program in CBS and again I say "Good for him" but I would also add, "Don't try and over do it, just make sure what ever you do you do well at it."

Slow start
After four starts this season CBS are struggling and off to a slow start. They haven't yet scored a goal or picked up a point. To date, the CBS club have suffered four loses: 2-0 and 1-0 to back to back loses in Corner Brook , 4-0 home loss to St. Lawrence and a 2-0 to Mount Pearl. However, when I look at this young squad and I see there is youth movement,  how can't I feel anything but good about their their developing approach when I see a young player such as , Josh Hanrahan, a former 2013 NL Canada Games player, taking a lead role on this team.  I realize his development as a player is going to occur on the soccer field not by him sitting on any clubs bench. In concluding, I would like to wish Gary and Damien and the CBS club all the best in 2015.

Mount Pearl getstheir first win of the season.

L-R : Justin Pickford, Kevin Oram, Brandon Noseworthy, Chad Seymore

Mount Pearl : 3 vs Feildians : 0
After a rather sluggish start to the 2015 Challenge season, Mount Pearl seems to be putting it together rather nicely. Mount Pearl, who opened up the season by being shut-out by the St. Lawrence Laurentians 1-0  and then losing their next game to Holy Cross 4-0  have now captured four of their last six points with a tie and a win.
On Wednesday  night at Smallwood Pitch, Mount Pearl took it to the Feildians and outplayed the Double-blue through out game. Mount Pearl who had missed a few glorious scoring opportunities early in the game scored the only goal of the first half at the 30 minute mark. Kevin Oram, who was playing in the mid-field position, struck from 25 yards when the ball hit the lower part of cross-bar it deflected down and went just a couple of feet inside the goal line beating the Feildians goalkeeper, David Hickey.
The play in the second half was fairly more even, territorially wise, but it was the offense of Mount Pearl that kept getting the better scoring opportunities. Justin Pickford, at the 70 minute mark, was awarded for his efforts as he finally put the ball in the corner of the goal to the left of Hickey after having a couple of great chances. Then, Chad Seymore, who had played a strong game for Mount Pearl, got the final goal of the game at the 86 minute mark as he physically beat a couple of Feildians defenders to the ball before he scored.  Brandon Noseworthy, was solid when called upon for the Mount Pearl team as he recorded his first shut-out of the season.
