Game 1. - Men’s - PEI - 2 vs Holy Cross - 0

Game Summary - Holy Cross won the battle but lost the war.

Holy Cross dominated the first half with five quality scoring chances but they repeatedly failed to capitalized . Scotty Woodfine had three glorious opportunities himself and young Matt Breen had an empty net but his excitement caused him to drive the ball 3 yards wide of the empty net.

PEI did play much better in the second half. I felt Holy Cross still had the greater number of better scoring chances but in the end the PEI team had scored twice blanking the Holy Cross team by a 2-0 score. The player of the match was the PEI goalkeeper, Matt Lally

Game 1. – Women’s - Kirby - 3 vs Ont. - 1

Game Summary : " Proud Day for Newfoundland Women's Soccer"

It was a great team effort and a superb showing for the NL Women's team team in PEI. IAs head coach, Scott Betts and Gerry Kirby, the teams assistant coach of the Holy Cross/ Kirby team quoted to me after the game, "Anytime a any NLSA based team can defeat the Ontario representative is a proud day for Newfoundland soccer." The Holy Cross / Kirby women's team won the game by a 3-1 final score. It was the team's overall marking and their defensive system that stunned Ontario. Holy Cross/Kirby played as a defensive machine giving Ontario very little time to use their skill level or think the game. The NL system combined with the talents of strikers Malorie Harris and Nicole Adams who performed up front, like they partners in crime, really shocked Ontario. Malorie scored two beautiful timely goals in the first half to give the Holy Cross momentum but it was Leslie Pope's dandy shot in the second half that nailed the victory.
