Brothers - Stephen and Jared Beck

Ray Becks Grandsons

First of all, I guess I should distinguish which Ray Beck I'm talking about here, seeing that we got three of them that hails from St.Lawrence. When the National were on the go in St.John's I was having a chat with Ray Beck. In this case, Ray is the guy that's lives in St. John's and has a home on the Burin Peninsula in Lord's Cove. While chatting with Ray he informed that his son Ambrose is living in Witby Ontario and he has two sons, Stephen and Jared that are playing minor soccer in the Witby program. He then pulled a photo of his two grandsons out of his pocket and proudly showed me their pictures. So here they are, on the Blog. Maybe one of these years one could see one of these kinds suiting up with a Ontario rep at a National Soccer Tournament.

Seahawks Soccer and Seahawk Acknowledgements

MUN Lady Seahawks -5 vs University of Moncton -0

A very one sided contest that saw Laura Breen and Nicole Adams scoring their goals in the opening half. MUN added three more in the second half. Laura Breen was a standout for MUN and was named their player of the game.

MUN Fans watch on as celebrations occur for 3 MUN Soccer Players:
Janine Bursey, Mike Dawe and John Douglas.
These 3 individuals will be graduating from MUN at the end of this year and this weekend marks the final weekend that these 3 athletes will be playing for MUN at home.

MUN Graduate : Janine Bursey

Janine Bursey with coach Walt Mavin

Janine Bursey has been the last line of defense foe the women's team for the last five seasons. Her quick reflexes and good decision making skills have helped her to 4 shutouts in 2008.Against Mount Allison she did not allow a goal in the two game weekend series. For her efforts she was named the AUS Athlete of the Week. She has played more games in goal for MUN than any other keeper. Janine was an all-star keeper in 2008 with EPR Kirby The/Dock team . Janine's hometown is St. John's, NL

MUN Graduates: John Douglas and Mike Dawe

MUN goalkeeper - John Douglas (L) & MUN Midfielder -Mike Dawe (R)

John Douglas finished out his eligibility with the Sea-Hawks this weekend. The veteran keeper is known to one of the top keepers in Newfoundland. He joined the roster this season and provided additional stability to a strong defense. So far this season the Sea Hawks have only allowed 14 goals in 11 games played. John Douglas is St.Lawrence Laurentians All Star goal keeper and his hometown is Grand Bank, NL.

Mike Dawe played five solid years for the Sea Hawks. He finishes his varsity career at home this weekend. During the last home weekend against Mount Allison Mike provided a huge spark offensively for Memorial with a goal and two fine plays to set up goals. Mike is a energetic player who gives an all-out effort every time he puts on the red and white. Mike is presently a member of the 2008 Holy Cross squad. Mike's hometown is St.John's, NL

Congratulations !! To : Keith and Angie who will be getting married on Sat. Oct 25,2008

Coach's Corner 2008 Award Winners

Blair Aylward - Coach's Corner 2008 Male Award Winner

Blair Aylward, is my choice for the 2008 Coach's Corner Male Award. I chose Blair for this award based on his dedication to the St.Lawrence Laurentians since 1991. Blair has had a remarkable career and has played in the provincial final every year since he first became a member of the St.Lawrence Laurentians. He is the present all time record holder of 13 Provincial Challenge Cup Championships. Blair was a key performer on the Laurentians when they won a National Challenge Cup Silver Medal in 2002 and when they won bronze in 1999 and in 2007. He has been captain of the Laurentians since 2003.

Laura Breen- Coach's Corner 2008 Female Award Winner

Laura Breen is my choice for the Coach's Corner 2008 Female Award. In my opinion Laura is the top female soccer player that Newfoundland has ever produced. Her performance at the Nationals gave all fans in attendance the opportunity to see a Newfoundlander that has the potential to play at a national level. No doubt Laura is surrounded by great players but it is her leadership ability, her vision and her soccer skills that are unparalleled in our province. She is a pleasure to watch and I feel her best years are yet to come. Laura Breen played for the Canadian National Team that competed at the World University Games in Bangkok,Thailand.
She is presently a member of the Memorial Sea-Hawks, Breen was named an AUS first-team all-star and a CIS second-team all-star in 2006, in addition to winning Provincial Female Athlete of the Year. Laura was also named the 2005 and 2006 Breen’s Provincial Jubilee Trophy League MVP. Laura was all so playoff MVP this season when her current team EPR Kirby/The Dock defeated Holy Cross by a 2-0 score
