2010 - BPSA JUNIOR MALE PLAYER OF THE YEAR
JORDI SLANEY OF ST. LAWRENCE
Jordi Slaney of St. Lawrence demonstrated his exceptional soccer ability at every level of soccer during 2010 as he established himself as one of the most promising young athletes in Newfoundland and Labrador. Natural ability, coupled with a strong determination to improve and attain the highest levels of his sport, motivated him to perform at an extremely impressive calibre as a mid-fielder at various competitions.
His on-pitch performance was such that he was invited to attend the National Training Camp in Halifax and to try out for the Atlantic team that will play in the 2011 national championships. He participated at the national Under-16 all-star championships in Sherbrooke, Quebec and was among the top group of players who were noted by various scouts. He is certainly showing signs of having a brilliant soccer career ahead of him.
He participated in the St. Lawrence minor soccer program and was a member of the St. Lawrence Academy high school team. He trained with players from the Burin Peninsula who are involved with the NLSA all star program, making the necessary sacrifices to improve his skills.
His caliber was good enough to play several games with the St. Lawrence Laurentians senior men’s team despite his age and was a member of the Burin Peninsula Soccer Association Under-16 team that represented the region at the provincial championships. In addition, he played in the Burin Peninsula Senior Men’s Intermediate League and in provincial intermediate championships with St. Lawrence.
Overall, while his play was outstanding, it was matched by his approach to the game and his sporting conduct on the field. He presents a role model for other young players to copy.
