St. Lawrence : 6 vs Mount Pearl : 0
Stefan Slaney scores a hat-trick
St. Lawrence Laurentians crushed Mount Pearl by a 6 -0 score in Molson Challenge Cup action played at Smallwood Field on Saturday evening. As the score would indicate the Laurentians pretty well owned the match for the entire 90 minutes.
In the first half it was Sean Drew who put on a show for the Laurentians scoring at the 12 minute and 16 minute mark. One of his two markers was an absolute dandy. He struck the ball from 10 yards and there was nothing but mesh preventing it from going into complete orbit. This score held up for the first 45 minutes of play.
In the second half, on came the Laurentians big striker, Stefan Slaney. Slaney recently hooked into a job out in Alberta. One off those construction type of jobs where one will work on a turn around schedule. And boy he must have adopted well, he turn this game around in the matter of minutes. He scored at the 62 , 66, and 84 minute mark. At the 69 minute mark his younger brother, Jordi banged in a rebound off another strike which was taken by Stefan. All three of Stefan's goals came from very low, heavy strikes that would make Argentina's superstar, Messi, turn his head.
The 6-0 final score now puts the Laurentians 4 points in front of Mount Pearl and 7 points a head of the Feildians in the league standings but still well behind the league leaders, the Holy Cross Crusaders.
