Are Burin Eagles ready for Challenge Cup?

After arriving home yesterday evening to get things in order for the Challenge Cup I heard on the radio that the Burin Peninsula Intermediate Championship Game was being played in Salt Pond between Burin and St.Lawrence at 6:30

Off to the game

I Dropped the wife off and to the field I went. Burin who last weekend won the Provincial Intermediate "A" Championships and St. Lawrence who also last weekend won the Provincial "B" Championships put on a good display of soccer. In the first half Burin carried the majority of the play but the end result was St.Lawrence goalkeeper, Mike Scott, made a few remarkable saves in keeping the game scoreless. Then in the second half, Burin showed their power and scored three beautiful goals. The Laurentians, Stefan Slaney, scored a dandy himself, striking the ball from about 30 yards and leaving David Baggs, the Burin keeper with absolutely no chance to save the shot. The final score was Burin 3 St.Lawrence 1.

Burin - Another Challenge Cup Team

Before the medal and championship plaque presentation took place Shane Dunphy, the President of BPSA gave me the opportunity to speak. I encourage the town of Burin, the Burin Soccer Association, and it's players to consider playing at the Challenge Cup Level next season. This young team has the formula to certainly go to the next level.

Burin Eagles - Best Intermediate Team in Province

The Burin eagles defeated everyone they played in both the NLSA and BPSA Championships. This club defeated St.Lawrence at both championships - (1-0, 3-1). They defeated Gander - (3-0), they defeated Paradise - ( 3-0) and they won the Provincial "A" Championship by defeating CBS by a convincing 4-1 score. Hopefully, this team will consider moving up next season under the guidance of Jeff Warren and Albert Anstey and be Burin Peninsula's second club in Provincial Challenge Cup competition.
