The St. Lawrence Laurentians' defeated the NL Canada Games in their two home matches played in St. Lawrence this week-end. In the first contest St. Lawrence won the contest by a 3-1 score. The Laurentian' goal-scorers were Sean Drew and Clinton Edwards . While the Laurentians' were also credited with a Own Goal , when the NL Canada Games team put the ball in their goal. Carter Mackey scored the Game Teams lone goal.The Games team played well in the first half, missing three glorious chances. Patrick Slaney looked sharp in net.The Laurentians' took control of the second half by being very physical and winning all 50/50 balls.
In their second match on Sunday, St. Lawrence took the play to the young U-18 team and controlled most of the game winning the contest by a 2-0 score. Sean Drew, who has been a stand-out for the Laurentians' all season, opened the scoring at the 34 minute mark. He out-muscled and did a fine job of shielding the ball as he went around the Games full-backs. Then in the second half, Richard Kelly struck a beauty at the 51 minute mark. The strike left Thomas Pieroway with no chance at all. For the remainder of the match it was St. Lawrence pressing for a third goal. Later on Drew was denied his second of the game as a scored on a header but a team-mate was called for off-sides.Both Marc Pittman and Richard continued on hitting for a home run strike but despite several good chances they missed the net. All they did was further damage to the shingles on the Rec Center.

There is no doubt that Mount Pearl is the surprise team of 2013. After several of their players defected and switched clubs prior to the season things looked rather bleak for the black and gold. But one must admit that
adversity didn't stop this club. They are back this season with some new young blood and some old blood.John Kelly, Matthew Hamyln, Marc Reddy and Ryan Caines are the clubs leaders and the heart and soul of the team are all back. While there are other players that have gotten to play on a more consistent basics this season such as Taedy O'rourke ,Nick Chretien and Yianni Hambis have played well. The return of Victor Dray, who is in fine shape and a tower of strength, is a great addition. Overall, their goalie Luke Olmstead has had a solid season. At this point one would have to admit, Mount Pearl are very much a legitimate contender for this years Molson Challenge Cup. Next Saturday, you can be the judge and see for yourself as Mount Pearl makes their first visit of the season to the Burin Peninsula to play the Laurentians'

Who is Osvaldo Croci ?
Mr. Osvaldo Croci is a Political Science Professor at M.U.N.
Osvaldo lives in St. John's and hails from Italy.
He is currently in the process of writing an article on
Newfoundland soccer. For the past twoyears he has
spent a considerable amount of time in St. Lawrence
doing research and meeting some well know soccer personalities.
The man is in awe of the Laurentians
past record and just how St. Lawrence can continue to compete
with Holy Cross, Feildiuans and Mount Pearl.

Dessy was an excellent minor soccer player.
Played a bit of senior soccer but as with many
Laurentian players heleft home at a very
young age for work. He currently lives
in Houston B.C.
