Mount Pearl blanks CBS

Mount Pearl: 3 vs CBS: 0

Mount Pearl record their 10th shutout

Another shut-out victory by Mount Pearl has the Challenge Cup soccer fans in a frenzy. Mount Pearl three points victory have both them and St. Lawrence all tied with just two games remaining. What's better still is both teams are scheduled to meet on Sunday.
Putt records shut-out
Again it was Mount Pearl goalkeeper, Tyler Putt and their great defensive system that carried Mount Pearl to victory. Justin Pickford two goal effort and Sean Drew late marker was more than CBS could handle.
Triller weekend !
This coming weekend St. Lawrence and Holy Cross are scheduled to battle on Saturday at KGV at 4 PM while Mount Pearl entertains Feildians in Mount Pearl. . Then on Sunday St. Lawrence and Mount Pearl take to the field at 12 noon in Mount Pearl.

Big game for Mount Pearl tonight

CBS vs Mount Pearl

In a game tonight where Mount Pearl meets CBS,the outcome could have major significance on the final standings. Mount Pearl, who are trailing St.Lawrence by just three points, could knot themselves on even keel this evening with a win.
Goaltenders
Both team's goaltenders have been outstanding this season and both of them have the potential to be the difference. Mount Pearl's keeper Tyler Putt has been simply outstanding all year and the CBS goalie Chris Hayes is the biggest single reason why CB Auto Strikers FC team have had a great first season.
CBS stated their point
What's so remarkable about the points that CBS have this season is the fact that this new club have already defeated St.Lawrence, the Feildians, and Western United and they have managed a tie against the first place Holy Cross team.
Very interesting !
Tonight's game in Mount Pearl at 8:45 pm could be "Very Interesting !"

Holy Cross: 1 vs CB Auto Strikers FC : 1

CBS stuns Holy Cross

Wow! Wasn't that a shocker in Provincial Challenge Cup play, CB Auto Strikers tying the " Big Red Machine." To date, this season Holy Cross pretty well have controlled their opponents and only have lost one game in the process. For most part, when Cross went to Nugent Field most would think, how many goals are Cross going pump in on this young team this evening? How many goals is Zack Wade going to score? Well the answer is one and I mean one, twice. Cross scored one goal and Zack Wade scored once. He was their lone marksman.
Hayes and Foote - star
The difference in this match turned out to be CBS goalkeeper,Cris Hayes and their star striker, Matthew Foote. I feel it would also be fair to say CBS also outworked Cross. There is no doubt that Cross controlled the match territorially and had enough chances to bury CBS but really Cross finishers didn't appear focused. They were just cruising along and in some cases they were mere idling . Their opponents worked very hard, were backed by some remarkable goal-tending and it was his stop making that did make the difference. While at the other end of the field, practically every-time CBS got with in striking distance of Scott Edwards, Matthew Foote was generating trouble for all of the Holy Cross fullbacks and having chances.
Goalscorers
It was Zack Wade, scoring his 14th of the year to open the scoring at the 35 minute mark and it wasn't until the dying seconds of the match, the 90 minuted mark, that Matthew Foote scored the tying goal. Foote's goal was his 7th of the year.
Tie or a victory
In the books this game will be written up as tie, each team will receive one point but there is no doubt that CBS walked away the victories team in this contest.

Mount Pearl and St. Lawrence are in a dog race for 2nd place.

It appears that Mount Pearl and St. Lawrence are into a dog race for second place that could be decided in their last game of the schedule when these teams are slated to play each other. Both teams went into this weekend with exactly the same number of points after 15 games. After this weekend’s action, where both teams defeated their opponents in two straight games, they remain tied. Mount Pearl had travelled to Corner Brook where they defeated the Western United FC team in both of their matches. As a result of Western United two losses this weekend ,they are officially knocked out of the 2010 Challenge Cup play-offs. While on the Burin Peninsula , the hometown Laurentians were celebrating St. Lawrence Day. St. Lawrence added to the hometown celebrations by shuting out the Feildians from St. John’s in two straight games at the Centennial Field. They blanked the Feildians 4-0 on Saturday and 2-0 on Sunday. Feildians have now clinched 4th and final play-off spot. On the Avalon on Saturday ,Holy Cross added 3 points to their first place standings by destroying the St. John’s Under -18’s by an 8-0 score. But the same young minor team from St. John’s showed character on Sunday when they rebounded from their devastating loss by beating the CBS representative by a 3-0 score.

Mount Pearl and Holy Cross to go head to head in Masters Playdown Championship

Mount Pearl 2009 Masters Championship Tean

Holy Cross are Mount Pearl to play in Masters Playdowns

It's a given, the masters team which will represent the province of Newfoundland and Labrador team in 2010 will be either Holy Cross or Mount
Pearl. These are the only two teams that have registered to play in the masters playdown which are scheduled for this weekend. The winner of this tournament is to advance to the Eastern Canadian Masters Championships which are to be played in Halifax, Nova Scotia from October 8 -11. Mount Pearl are the defending Provincial Champs and they were seeded 5th at the Eastern Canadian Championships in 2009.
The Favorites
Looking at the current standings, in the St. John's League, Mount Pearl are certainly the favorites going into the best two out of three affair this weekend. To date in 2010 Mount Pearl haven't lost a single game in 13 matches. They are presently supporting a 12 win - 1 tie record. While Holy Cross are currently in second place, supporting a 9 win, 4 loss record. The first game this weekend is scheduled for Saturday evening at 6 pm, in Mount Pearl. Game two is scheduled for KGV in St. John's at 8:30 pm on Sunday evening. The particulars on a Game 3 will be decided if the game is required.
The All- NL Masters Provincial Championship is slated for Paradise on September 17-19 weekend.
